- The Al-look trim in the E39 M5 breaks down quickly. Many people are on their 4th set of replacements... usually in the shifter, console, and controls area.
- The Al-look trim for the M5 is called Titanium over here... might be called something else in other places.
- The M5 Al-look trim is absolutely like what you get in a 330 or any other non-M. Many people are getting the two metalic trims mixed up. The more common 5 and 3 series Al look trim is not the same as what you see in the M5 (or M3 if it was an option). The "titanium" metal trim has a brushed texutre. For example the dash pieces have horizontal scratched / brushed lines in them, like wood grain, and are not smooth to the touch. Some versions have a plastic coating over this, others do not, it's been changed to try and reduce the problem. The 3 and 5 standard Al trim has no "grain" to it, it's smooth.
