< wearing various sizes of restrictor plates which are not used on the street cars.> As StoneWalk noted, the engines in these cars are built under rules with which they must comply. I remember reading/hearing the restrictor plates put the ALMS E46 M3 at a power disadvantage vs the Porsches in their GT class. But even given that, these cars and engines are nothing like those that come from the show room. I remember early on, the PTG guys had 420 hp coming from that engine (the 6) and later said they had pulled yet more from it. I’m not sure what the Porsche had. The BMWs were purportedly better in the corners than the Porsche, and in a pre-event show, (for Daytona), they were showing a rear spoiler on the 996 Porsche which they had to get permission to raise 7 or 9 inches due to some “high speed instability problems”. As BD pointed out, it looks like the M3s may be competitive with the Porsches this year -even the 6 cyl M3 had the second fastest lap time behind the V8 M3 - (and yeah, I know, this doesn’t impress Steve). This makes the races more interesting and fun to watch!Someone posted a comment saying the aluminum block V8 is lighter than the 3.2 6cyl in the M3 - I’d wondered about this. Does anyone know the respective weights of the two engines?
