I read your post above about leases and dealer manipulations. Is this why you would buy instead of lease?

Exactly. Although leasing is normally a good option if you're thinking short term, in this case the value of the M3 is likely to hold up rather well for a year or two if you wish to sell it yourself, and this fact is in sharp contrast to to the "terms" you are likely to be able to negotiate with your dealer on a lease right now (you have essentially _zero_ leverage on getting good lease terms - at least cash buyers can _try_ to get the dealer to deliver on their MSRP promise, but heaven help you if you're looking for a decent money factor, residual value, or details on lease buyout terms)

Just my opinion.
