It is all about engine characteristics. That's why I have the impression
the difference is bigger than the figures are telling us.

The new engine is smoother and does not at all lack the low end punch of
the E36 M3 engine ! In fact I had the feeling (don't know if this is a
fact) it develops more low end power. At least it feels like that ! The
high end is unquestionable more impressive

the gearing? I think the tranny might be the same, but the diff is lower (3.15 or 3.21 right? vs 3.64 in the E46).
