Its Official...

"However, there's method in the madness; BMW's
motorsport division is to race the 400bhp V8 car and the
rules stipulate it must also build road-legal models for sale.

A limited production run is planned and a BMW spokesman
said: "The M3 will look very similar to the race car but have
a bit less power, of course." It will use the same engine as
the M5, but have less weight to carry. In race trim it's 450kg
lighter than the current M3."

Needs to be the same engine they are racing with and they are racing with a 4.0l not a 4.9l engine. And second it does not state that it needs to be sold in the USA.
