I just realized why I am not that excited about the M3. I just realized it is based on the E46 3 SERIES. Well I am sorry board but that explains it! I hated the E46 when it came out, was suprised how much they made the car "soft" compared to the E36. You know maybe I am the problem, having driven cars recently that are very "tight" (as opposed to soft) I think I expected more from the M3. But now that I think about it for a "BMW" it might not be that bad. My Z3 was an absolute joke, no matter what engine is in the car, it cant compete with a boxster s and s2000 (two cars in the driveway) so I always felt cheated by BMW. With this is mind I guess the M3 isnt as bad as I may make it out to be. Its not the MOTORSPORT DIVISIONS fault that BMW made the E46 SO SOFT that making a car that felt like a sports car would be impossible. I think the problem was this board kept saying the M3 was comparable to cars like the 911, Z06, CLK55, the M5, 355 (yeah right) and others, So having been in those cars I started to formulate delusions of granduer for the new M3. I realized that when I start to compare the M3 to real sports cars like the 911, boxster s, s2000, z06 I think the M3 is a pos because its not a real sports car. But If i start to compare the M3 to the E46 330ci then I see that its not such a bad car afterall. I think the problem was on this board is that we were fooling ourselves to think the M3 was going to be better than it could ever live up to. I am still kind of pissed that the M3 is not more fun to drive and have more "feel". But looking at what BMW has produced recently maybe the M3 isnt that bad. What this shows me though is that companies like porsche and Mercedes are going to lead the way in the future and BMW (which used to offer cars with great feel and character) is molding every car to feel like a luxury sedan. The only thing missing from the M3 is the 7 series steering wheel...I had it in my Z3 :)
