Shot it with penetrating oil - broke - 3/8" breaker bar 2-1/2 " Ratchets . Tomorrow go at it with new 1/2" breaker bar if that breaks will heat with acetelyne torch . Anybody got any ideas ? Took one off my other engine with penetrating oil and 1/2" ratchet .
Simple brute force is all that is required to undo crank nut, I use a steel pipe sleeve (4ft long 3 inch dia) and place it over the half inch breaker bar. to lock the starter ring - clamp large vice grips on the flywheel damper between water pump and alternator and wedge large screwdriver in timing opening then pull on steel sleeve hard.
get someone to help is a good idea.
if standard gearbox place in 1st also
Do yourself a favor and go buy a 3/4" drive socket and breaker bar. Then use a cheater pipe on it after you lock the crank (starter ring) with BMW's special tool.
