Recommended in Volvo manuals and also often mentioned in discussions of Old Generation 900 SAABs: get your 1/2" breaker bar and a long cheater extension wedged into the chassis in such a way that it is firmly prevented from jumping out of place and from turning in the direction of normal motor rotation (this usually requires an assortment of short 2x4s or 4x4s), then get in the driver's seat and hit the starter once or twice. The Volvo people consider this technique far superior to a locked flywheel and impact wrench.

I'm sorry to be so late in this thread, but I've been out of town for two weeks.

Sounds like a good idea but wiring harness off motor , battery removed , ignition switch cut out of harness . Do you think starter could budge 300 + ft lbs ???
