hi,

right on, pat. i believe the earlier 2800CS came with the gigantic "school bus" wheel with a wood veneer rim, whereas the '72 and '73 3.0CS came with the same huge "school bus" steering wheel with either a black plastic rim or a leather-wrapped rim. (mine came with the black plastic rim.)

there was also an optional sports steering wheel typically found on CSL cars. it has 3 aluminum fins with holes drilled through them, a la jaguar XKE and other 60's-type classic race car steering wheels. this wheel came with either a rubber rim (with faux stitching molded into it) and also wrapped in genuine leather. like the standard wheel, there were 2 different diameters -- one that was of 2002 proportions and one that was of CS proportions.

the '74 E9 had a much more modern wheel. it was padded, had a large horizontal crosss-section with with a roundel in the center, and the whole center piece was the horn.

best regards,
doug
73 3.0CS

Does anyone know if '72 cs ever came from the factory with a wood steering wheel like the one that was at auction on ebay the other day? Thanks.

No, the car came with a leather covered large diameter(some liken it to a bus steering wheel) wheel that is best replaced with a Nardi wood rimmed wheel. My personal preference is the black spoked one that was installed in my CSi by the previous owner.

Pat
