I agree with your post points except for the poor resale. Considering the original cost of the E9, around 9 grand, going for an average of 6500(good project car) now a days ain't too shabby. Of course that is an enthuiast paying that much money. You'd never get that from an average Joe in Auto Trader.Based on what I've seen (spent a year looking) most of these cars in decent shape sell for much more than the majority of cars from that time period. At least they are in the upper-end hobbyist scale anyway. You can't class them like Aston Martins or anything.
But according to the numbers (if correct) they are some pretty rare cars. It is really amazing if you think about it just how rare they are. You'd think they would cost even more than they do.
