I removed the fueling door and boot on my '72 to paint the opening and the back of the door in preparation to painting the car.

It seems almost impossible to replace them without scratching either the front door edge or the quarter panel.

Any "hints or kinks" would be appreciated.

BTW, the vinyl covering on the inside of the rear quarter panels holds condensation and promotes rust on the inside under the vinyl This is especially so where BMW crudely cut the holes for the US required side marker lights and did not paint the edges of the holes. Rust can start and travel along the rear of the panel under the vinyl.
