If you surf on the BMW Club Hongkong Web site www.bmwclub.org.hk and click the car of the month link (car of September), you will see some pictures of my series two Bat and a short description of the CSL production figures with chassis numbers. In a very condensed form some of the main differences between the different CSL production batches are explained.
Basically the main differences between a series one and a series two CSL are :
The model itself (production date, year of production) :
Series one Bats have been built till the end of 1973 (110 cars built between July and December 1973)
Series two Bats have been built in 1974 and 1975 (57 cars built, from which 40 built in 1974 and 17 built in 1975)
The Chassis numbers :
Series one Bats belong to the LHD production batch of fuel injected CSL’s (chassis numbers ranging from 2275 001 – 2275 539)
The last 110 cars of this batch are Bats (Series one Bats chassis numbers range then from 2275 430 – 2275 539)
Series two Bats are a specific production batch (chassis numbers ranging from 4355 031 – 4355 057)
I really do not want to explain here all about the differences between series one and series two Bats, because there are quite a lot of differences (sometimes minor sometimes not), but the main visible differences are :
Series one Bats have a two fin rear wing
Series two Bats have a three fin rear wing (central support like on the Luigi race CSL’s)
The patterns of the (inner) door panels and rear side panels are different between Series one Bats (“S pattern”) and series two Bats (“point pattern”)
The wipers are chrome wipers for Series one Bats and black wipers for series two Bats
The driver bucket seat is adjustable from the left side on series one Bats and from the right side on series two Bats
Anyway I think the best thing for you is to wait until the www.csl-register.de Web site is ready !!!
