Dear Robert,
after having done total restoration on 5 classic cars, ihave got some experience on paint jobs.first, i think those prices you are beeing quoted are out of this world! I thought Norway was expensive, but my!

You say the prices are "out of this world." What should a thorough, professional job such as this cost?

Are all the estimates way too high, or just the first and second ones? The Maaco job seemed high, but since it was the lowest, I figured it was OK, but was definately concerned about the quality.

How much did your Glassurit (sorry about the spelling the first post) job cost? The restorer said that the Glassurit materials alone would total $1200 HIS PRICE. Can this be true?

Thanks,
Robert

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
for teh spray of my mga, i paid 3000,- NOK, = 320 usdlrs, this included Glassurit paint and thinner, and it was used so much paint that it was either a 150% success, or a total failure.
do bear in mind, that my man received the mg ready primed and sanded down with 1200 wet, so all he had to was the spray, but my, that is what puts the crown on your work.i used about 4 litres spray filler which was sanded down, and i sprayed the car twice with 2K acryllic before final top coat, and with all this material, and the final sprayjob, i never came to such costs. the cs would take max. 2 litres of acryllic , depending on whether you have metallic or a base colour, metallic is more expensive, sinc you apply the colour and then the clear coat. i used 2 litres acryllic(hardener and thinner incl) for the 2 spays i did on the mga.i will try to check some prices here tomorrow, as i said earlier, Norway is bloody expensive, so it shouldnt be worse in your end. the glasurit are really top qual. i sold the mga this sping, thre years after finished restoration, and there was one single schratch or blemmish in the paint, and i live close to the North Sea, and we get salt sprays from that, about 9 months a year, and themg was garged for this period, but never any sign of wear or rust on thecar. i will use glassurit for my CS when sparying time comes, i will pay those xtra money, and not having to redo the job in a 3-4 years again.
