Rare and beautiful. That's 2 good reasons. Coming home from the SLO Fest West in the coupe, we got admring glances from some E38 passengers and from a couple of suits at a gas station. Somehow, I don't think the reaction would be the same with an E36 or even an E46.
Sure, the racing heritage is nice to have, but it's the performance of the car that satisfies. It's very competent and comfortable, even by today's standards. Yet, it's not totally isolated, providing very good feedback to the driver and (if well maintained) responds quite quickly. It does so many things very well.
