I was quoting asking prices, but at the lower price end, asking and selling tend to compress since there is less "play" in the price (unless the car is over represented in the first place).

Somewhat true. Although I've often purchased cars for half the asking price simply due to "being in the right place at the right time w/a big wad of cash" SO that CS coupe that the asking price is 14K could be had for 7-10K depending upon the motivation of the seller. These are usally the best cars to buy.....

I once purchased a 68' Lotus 7 for $7K --even when the owner was asking 14K --simply because the guy was leaving for England and didn't want the car there when he returned!

A lot of those "Rust Free West Coast Cars" tend to be less rust free than one might imagine. Mine WAS rust free until I cut into good metal looking for rust and found some.

True! But even those 14K+ cars probably have the same rust hidden......

The difference between an East Coast and West Coast car is quite often that the East Coast car is structurally compromised (as in $BIG to fix, often more than the car is worth) vs. the West Coast car where in 40-100hrs of shop time you can have a very strong, safe chassis prepped for paint that will last another 10-15 years.

I would personally never buy a east coast car. Since growing up in the midwest you really know how bad cars can get...... Now living in the west and seeing all those unrestored old 50-70's classics still being driven with virtually no rust on them. This is the place to be!
