On my 72 3.ocs I just replaced the solex carbs with a new pair of webers, which I like very well. however, upon shutting the car off the engine diesels for quite a long time. does anyone know how to fix this?

with the Webers and low octane fuel with high octane pistons.
There should be a solonoid mounted on the intake manifold that closes the throttles more with the ignition shut off.
Failing that (and assuming fairly clean combustion chambers and no-deposit plugs), stop the engine with your clutch in gear (brake on of course).
