mine seems to close fine, even with a slam, but then again I don't have a toolbox so I guess it isn't too big of a deal ; )
When lid close fast an air pressure forms inside trunk, do to the shape of trunk lid will not allow air to venturi, so the moral is just close slow and then press down lid. And yes the lid can be slam to close, but why! you will have to rearrange the tools inside lid tool box container everytime.
