Al,
This was very well put and informative.
I also had the gas/vapor smell problem that I solved with replacing all the hoses from the gas filler neck to the vapor canister to the charcoal canister and finally to air cleaner. I also put in a new gas cap and a new seal on top of the firewall. I also found the two clamps that connect the filler neck to the tank was loose. Now I can drive with the windows down without getting dizzy!!
