These cars appear to be looked at as drivers more than as trailer queen collector cars, so my advice would be to ask yourself if you love driving it the way it is or you more enjoy showing the car as an unrestored classic.

IF you can convert the car to manual without butchering the car (which should be entirely possible since the parts are out there), then I would say have at it. I would stop short of anything that would alter the car materially from how it would have looked had it been factory manual (5 speed notwithstanding). Save the removed parts, of course, so if the market ever gets as nuts as the Corvette market, you can advertise "matching numbers."

Just my opinion,
Bob

After reading this forum for over 6mos, I am feeling very lucky indeed. I have a 72 3.0CSA with 30,000 original miles, no rust, and everyone who sees the car remarks that it still smells new. It actually does. Never seen snow, very little rain, and always garaged in a dry climate. Problem is, it is an automatic. Now my dilemma. I would really like to change it to a 5 speed. How difficult is this, and would it be sacrilegious. I am torn between keeping original and making modifications that improve driveability and performance. Those in the know please advise. It has recently seen 132MPH according to the speedo, and there was just a little left at 6500 rpm.
