If Sean were proposing to buy the Mona Lisa and paint a moustache on her, it WOULD be a sacrilige perhaps, but installing a BMW transmission in a BMW car hardly appears to rise to that level.
All CS cars are going to rot away or wear out. Is simply driving one a sacrilege? Perhaps in some eyes, but to others, these cars were made to be enjoyed. If a no-damage and reversible modification can be made to enhance the driving enjoyment of its owner, why not?

After reading this forum for over 6mos, I am feeling very lucky indeed. I have a 72 3.0CSA with 30,000 original miles, no rust, and everyone who sees the car remarks that it still smells new. It actually does. Never seen snow, very little rain, and always garaged in a dry climate. Problem is, it is an automatic. Now my dilemma. I would really like to change it to a 5 speed. How difficult is this, and would it be sacrilegious. I am torn between keeping original and making modifications that improve driveability and performance. Those in the know please advise. It has recently seen 132MPH according to the speedo, and there was just a little left at 6500 rpm.
