I just got a 73 3.0 CS and it needs ALOT of work. I'm going to skip all the important things like brakes, lights, suspension, etc. and go for the most annoying thing first.

I've tracked down the loudest interior moise to the transmission input shaft bearing. When I unzip the shift boot, there's nothing down there. I mean no sound deadening material or insulation. Is this normal, or should I stuff something in there?

There should be a factory part still available, i bought one a couple of years ago for my 72 cs . It's foam and formed to fill the area around the housing containing the shifter it has a hole in the middle and fits over the housing by being pushed down ,however you have to get under the car and remove the housing in order to get it in there but it is very effective in sound deadening. If i remember it cost around five dollars.
