Yes NLA means No Longer Available, but that is not true from what I have found. I got a right and a left one new from my BMW dealer. But dealers still don't know anything about BMW Mobile Traditions. I had to teach my dealer that there was such a thing. They were very surprised. Anyway, I believe it was optional equitment, but not sure.
As per the mutant project, it is a '71 model year, '70 build date 2800cs Auto, that we(my father and I) purchased from the original owner in Alabama with 100k on it. The car was in decent shape. Had been repainted in Cinnibar Red, was originally Granada. The front pump on the tranny was gone, but the car still drove, not for long. Rear power windows didn't work and a few other small things were wrong. Well the tranny died and so we decided that since we had a fully parted out E28 lying around that we would do a factory BMW upgrade. We have so far done a full restore. Fixed all rust and repainted it BMW Bright Red(Name of new color used on E36). After that we have installed the E28 wiring harness and motronic motor. We have upgraded the factory air conditioning to E28 and we have pretty much used as many E28 parts as we could. We have power assist brakes instead of vacuum, 5 speed, 3.45LSD, and lot of other goodies. We have headers and a CSL exhaust on the car. Basically I call it an E28 in E9 clothing. We are going to be starting it over Christmas break, as I currently go to NC State and the car is in Bergen County NJ. So we will hopefully have the car running by Jan. 1 We are also going to try to use E28 black center Alpinas to be able to put down the power. We have also upgraded the suspension and brakes, etc.
Hey if you know of anyone who needs used CS parts please let me know. As we get the E28 stuff in we find lots of good coupe parts that we don't need.
