I just bought two service manuals from my local car book guy (Auto Bound in Alameda, CA 510-521-8620). One was published in 1989 by Motorbooks International, Osceola, WI 54020, and the other in 1977 by Autobooks of Brighton, UK. Both are new unused books so either he has a source for these or he's been waiting 20 years for me to stop by.

Motorbooks International is still in business but doesn't list this book in print. It has no other author or publishing info in it, and looks like it may be a reprint of a factory manual since all the pictures are of a pristine, never-run car. It covers carbureted E3 and E9.

The Autobooks manual is By Kenneth and Mary Ball (there's even a picture of Mary standing next to her 2800CS). It also covers E3 and E9 but includes fuel injection in addition to carburation. Authors give credit to BMW AG for all illustrations and data. Its hard cover and has no photographs.

While is was there I picked up a Haynes E3 manual from 1980. Its been out of print since 1986. I got this one by mistake because it only says "Does not cover Coupe models" in very small print on the back cover. It was worth it though becasue it has the most detailed engine section including carburettor exploded views.

I'm interested in other people's experience with these books versus factory manuals.

I am looking for a service and repair manual to my 2800cs. They are not to be found anywhere. Does someone know where I can find one?

Thanks
