My bet is that the brushes are worn in the starter motor...sometimes they make contact, sometimes they do not. When the brushes wear out, they reach a limit to how far they can travel in the holder. Eventually, they bottom out and can not make contact with the armature (correct name?).

Next time the car wont start, try tapping the starter motor body with a hammer. If the car then starts, it is the brushes. By tapping with the hammer, you are slightly moving the brushes, which enables them to make contact.

Just last week I started having problems starting my car, you can hear the solinoid click but the starter does not engage. The battery is OK and all connections are clean and tight.
Today it failed to start 2 times (had to push and started by poping the clutch) once it arrived home back in the garage it started 3 times without failing. (Knows it safety zone)

Could it be the solinoid?
Is there a way to test the solinoid without removing it from the car?.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
