You are much better off bringing a car to a small restoration type shop to someone who has the skills and patience to do it right the first time, not some shop staffed by tech-school dropouts and motormouth counter guys.
At my shop, I could never even buy the paint and materials to do a halfway decent job for less than a thousand dollars.
And figure in a hundred hours labor, minimum, and you can see that the cost is easily above $4 to $5 thousand for a good job. Of course, what this gets you is a paintwork that is at least as good, and usually better than the factory paintwork.
Plus, in that this is an E9 board, you should also bring the car to someone familiar with the construction of the car, the typical rust traps and hidden problems that are unique to these cars, ask Maaco if they would probe around the lower windshield pillars for rust...they are completely clueless.
I always say, living with a shoddy job is forever, and lasts much longer than the memory of the money spent on doing it right the first time.
