The front seats in my 2800cs are in dire need of complete rebuilding; springs, padding, and covers (a very expensive endeavor). I have stumbled across a pair of manual seats from an early e24 which appeared very similar and were quite reasonable. Is there any chance they would fit?

I'm pretty sure these will work. You can check by measuring the mounting points for the seat tracks on both seats. As I recall, you have to swap the complete tracks, but this should be a straight bolt-up swap.
