Benn thinking of renewing my windshield on my '74 CS because of that nasty fogging in the corners. Since I have no experience at glass replacement, would I be better off just taking it to the local BMW dealer and letting them do it or attempting this myself? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think OEM windshields are about $1800 USD .

Should be more like $500.00 plus $70-80 for the gasket. Have a professional put it in as coupe windshields are notoriously difficult to install, at least compared to other cars. Removing and reinstalling the trim without mangling it is difficult too. Might be wise to have the installer purchase the glass, if possible, so they will guarantee the installation. If you supply the glass they may not cover the cost of it if it breaks during the install, which has been known to happen on coupes.
