Does anyone know the difference in the front spring rates between an a/c car and one without a/c? Obviously the a/c car would have stiffer springs, but how much stiffer? I am also interested in opinions on aftermarket springs. Thanks.

The factory shop manual only lists one set of specs for E9 coupes. BMW did grade the springs (they are marked with stripes: red, white, green, soft to hard), but I don't think any distinction was made for A/C cars.
The spring force is measured in "kp":
red: 375-388
white: 389-402
green: 403-416
The springs usually had 2 stripes, one for front or rear (blue or brown, as I recall) and the other for the grade above. HTH Bill
