1. A thread on the 2002 forum suggested (after all panel and welding work) acid dipping and phosphatizing which sounds like a thorough way of ridding the bodyshell of rust. Comments?
2. Any suggestions on body strengthening - which areas, how, parts required and approx. costs.
3. Any other worthwhile work to bodyshell?
Dipping the shell is the only way to truly remove all rust. The system I am familiar with uses a strong akailine solution to dissolve paint and rust.Rinsing and neutralizing after removal from the tank must be done very thoroughly so that remnants of the solution are completely removed and cannot seep out of the body at a later date.I have used this system on 2 restorations(65 Mustang,67 Sunbeam Tiger)and it really is the way to go if you can deal with the extra work it entails. This being the complete removal of all items from the body shell. You may not be able to do all metalwork before dipping though,as this method of rust and paint removal tends to reveal some surprises after it is done.
