I have a 72 CS with a manual antenna mounted on the left front fender. I would like to know I anyone has swapped this antenna for an electric one. I would like to be able to install a used hirshmann or like, found in the newer 5, or 7 series. All help and suggestions are appreciated very much!

I am no expert but I think that you will have to hurdles. One is if there is room under the fender for the electric one. They usually have large gear motors to operate the antenna. If there is room the replacement should be simple and there usuall is no expansion of the hole required. Mind you this all depends on how your original one was insatlled.

The second hurdle will be how to opperate it. Some radios have an out put to run one, if yours does your in luck. If not your have to come up with a fancy switch to run it up and down. If this is what you have to do you will probably always keep it up which would bring you back to why you would put your self to that much extra work. But that will have to be your decision.

I hope this gave you something to consider.

Regards
Troy
