Far and away the most enjoyable overall to drive (for me) have been the E9 CS coupes. The 6-series cars were the most comfortable long-distance vehicles, but surprisingly, the '02's and E9 coupes are seat-of-the-pants equal for toss-ability I.M.H.O.

I have a 79 635 euro thats wicked fast, a dodgie '77 630, a 72 Tii, a fresh 68 1600, and three CS-es. I think for balance you'd be happiest in a CS, but sorely disappointed if it has to be an automatic.

If you "have" to have an automatic, you'd see the least effect in the 635.
