Remove the rocker covers. Bubbles=Bad
Try jacking the car by the jack-points w/ the factory jack. Should be NO flexing.
Remove the shielding behind the front wheels (10mm headed bolts or screws) and look inside.
Look at the front of the rear wheel wells (by the subframe bushings).
Check the seams where the Fr. fenders join the wheelhouses (especially UNDER the asphalt padding).
Lots of other places, but the car definately sounds like a 6K (max) car to me.

Bob

Hi all, I've just recently fallen in love with the various CS models, and I've encountered one that I need advice about. When I came up close to it, my heart started racing and I was head over heels. I'm seriously considering buying it. Also, I've got a mechanic coming with me to look at it, so I think between him and this list I can come to the right price to offer for this vehicle. The dealer has started at $9,500.

It is a 1973 3.0cs. It is unrestored and needs a medium amount of cosmetic work (it could use a new paint job, dash veneer). Seats are pretty good, if a little worn. The engine had a new head put on, and a transmission rebuild. Clean looking engine. Webers replaced the Zeniths. Spotless trunk. I saw no rust on the sheet metal. Sounds ok so far, right? Well... I said I was in love, but I'm not blind.

There is some rust underneath, but not at the pillars. The extent of the rust I didn't determine, but will. The seat belt cables (not the belts, but the assembly they attach to) are worn through and might break on impact. Air is only marginally cool. Steering is very vague at center (supposedly the 'center drag link' needs to be replaced). The paint is bubbling on the passenger side, but no rust beneath the bubbles that I can tell. Electric windows are sloooow. And the engine seemed to have no power - I expected at least some 'oooomph', but was dissapointed. Two small dents, not that bad.

So, does this 'sound' like a $9,500 cs? All my research and price comparison tells me this is high. What ballpark of price does my description above smack of?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Cliff
