pertronix and the ballast resistor (archive)

I have a pertronix kit for my bat but am having difficulty wiring it up. I lost the instructions and was told to just attach the red wire to the positive side of the coil and the black to the negative. However I have a ballast resistor on the car and apparantly this means that a wire must go to the ballast resistor. My other csl does not have a ballast resistor. Do I need one? Can I remove it? If not how does an electrical idiot wire up pertronix with the resistor in place?

Regards

Rohan
