Thanks for your response Harold. Curious about the type of seats you used, and wanted to understand whether aftermarket seats such as Recaro rather than later BMW seats would be appropriate for fitting into a coupe. Anybody else tried it?
Thanks.

I once installed some 8 way adjustable electric seats in a coupe. It was not an undertaking that I would do again.

The problem lies in the large "hump" that is under the seats/seat rails. Most seats are designed to be mounted closer to the floor, meaning that the "hump" gets in the way. I had to build a new box frame to replace the structural "hump" and mount the seats on that.

Was the finished product nice? Yes.
Would I do it again? No.

There may well be some seats that have the same height profile of your coupe that would be less of a hassle to put in, but I could not find any.

I love the original black leather seats in my '73 cs, but ther're thrashed. I am thinking about having them recovered, and have noticed materials alone are somewhere near $1000. I've also noticed that later model sedan seats covered in leather with power mechanisms can be found for approximately $500. a set.

So, I'm thinking of getting a set in anticipation of having to have something to sit on while the originals are being recovered, or just fitting them for a more modern seating alternative if they are truly superior.

Anybody done this? How hard is it to modify either the original seat rails or replacement seat rails?
I've seen later coupes with power seating, -is it hard to hook up newer power seats?
Thanks.
