I recommend you stick with the original mahogony rather than apply a different veneer. I bought a CS where the wood was re-veneered with curly maple. Looks great, but is almost impossible to match with a Nardi wheel, shift knob, etc. I am having a shift knob custom made, as the plain one I inherited is pretty funky.

PS: anyone seen a curly maple steering wheel for sale anywhere???
