First Motronic 1.0
Well basically, it bolts on, but you will need to put on a different tranny bell housing to accomodate the flywheel reference sensors. You will also need the motronic flywheel. At the same time you will most likely need the thermostat housing for the coolant temp sensors. Also, you might need the injectors, but I can't remember. Otherwise, it just bolts on.
The Motronic 1.3
This is harder because you will need to change the crank hub and use a lot of the front engine stuff of the M30 b35 motor. Other then that, I can help you go through what you need to do the conversion.
I personally would stay with the motronic 1.0 because it is much easier to work with than the 1.3. Even though the 1.3 will give you more power, I would say that the extra cost is not worth it.
Let me know privately if you need more help.

Rob,
Thanks for the info. Let me see if I can clear it up a little bit. I have an 81 engine out of a euro 635 that is complete with the fuel inj. system. That ecu is not programable. I also can get a newer fuel inj. system that is 80's vintage that is programable. I'm not sure what it came from, but I know it was on a 3.5 engine. I can find this out with a phone call. I want to put the best package together to go in my CS. I'm also wanting to know if it would be best to keep the engine stock or not? I'm going to be going thru it anyway and was wondering if it is worth making performance mods or just plan on keeping the motor stock? I do plan on driving the car aggresively, and I do kinda want a hot rod. But I also want to keep it practical to drive.
Thanks,
Steve
Any f/i is better than carbs in my book, but, I would say, that if you are going to be dropping that motor in, run motronics. There is a conversion list on m535i.org to do an E12 M535i. Basically, the more modern the f/i, the better in most cases. Which f/i are you talking about that can be chipped? I am not familiar unless I am forgetting something, which could be possible.
