I opened mine by going through the gas fill gasket as Steve suggested. I bent a piece of aluminum stock so that I could catch the release mechanism with it and trip the lock. It's not too hard. The other option is through the roundel, but you may have to drill a hole to make it work.

My local bmw dealer was able to order a new, pre-drilled key from the motherland.
They asked for proof of ownership, ran the vin# thru the system and in 2 weeks, it was in for p/u.
Your dealer is either lazy or lame.
You may also be able to free the lock by removing the trunk badge. thru the holes, you use a pick or similar to release the catch. You can open the gas-fill door, push the rubber aside and wedge a flashlite to assist.

I purchased a 1971 2800CS which only has the "valet" key. The trunk is locked. Both the local BMW dealer and locksmiths seem unable to help me. I need a way to:

1. Get into the trunk
2. Make a new key or instal a new lock/key

Any ideas? Please help... Thanks!!!
