no harm in telling the truth, so here goes:
1) Got grp copies of the CSL Scheel seatmount covers from him. Garbage. NO effort to make good with better replacement.
2) Got black gelcoat CSL rear bumper, the gelcoat was horribly scratched up and marred. HIS response? "Just paint them black."
3) Roof hoop for CSL? Only finished on one side, and brackets for mounting were stamped out of 1/8" thick steel.
4) if you get fenders be sure to specify that they be laid glass and not sprayed/chopped glass. Laid ("hand laid") glass is strong and smooth. Chopped is weak, abrasive, and dangerous.
5) f.w.i.w. just talk with the guy and press for specific unambiguous descriptuions of what you'd like to buy and you'll probably be fine
Carl Nelson at CNPR has anything you would want for your repro-parts needs that can be gotten elsewhere, and he'll at least accurately describe the part he's going to send you!
In my defense, the seat side covers available from BMW were very flimsy, vacuum formed plastic which cracked very easily. I have had two versions available, one fiberglass and one thermoformed. BOth are more resistant to cracking, but the original texture is not reproducable without very expensive tooling, which is not warranted by the level of interest in the part. I do not know who this complainant is, nor do I know which version he received, I DO KNOW no attempt was made to return them, which I would have accepted. The rear GRP bumper is black PRIMER GELCOAT, which is meant to be painted, and comes from the fabricator in a finish less than usable as-is. I try to make a point of explaining this to prospective buyers. As for hand laid glass cloth, it is prohibitively expensive, and would require doubling the prices I charge. However, glass cloth is available on special order, at twice the price. The roof hoop is now finished on both sides, unlike earlier repros avialable from people like R C Motorsports, and the brackets are 304 stainless steel, which can be polished or painted, but will never rust. This is a premium material.
BTW, Carl Nelson gets the majority of his fiberglass parts from me - I am the manufacturer, the source and offer prices which are, if compared to other sources, fair and equitable.
