Sorry, this may be a '74-only thing, but... try starting it after putting on your seatbelt (make the "fasten seatbelts" light turn off) if it's a USA car (otherwise, this isn't an issue).

I know it sounds stupid, but it my 74 had a ignition-killing relay hooked to the seatbelt.

Now I think this is '74-only, but I may be wrong.
