What photos, when I click on the link I hit an
empty dead end.

Go to the link to see some photos of my BMW and F1 stuff
from the '70s. Sorry for some of the weird angles, but some
of these shots are on 11x14 and the scanner isn't. Also,
Type R prints don't seem to age too well, at least the
mid-70s ones (these are all from prints - the originals are
all Kodachrome 64 and in archival storage). I'm not saying
these are my best shots, just some shots that I could find.
The three pages from the Sept. 1978 BMWACA Los Angeles
Region newsletter are of the 1978 IMSA Sears Point and
Portland races which I shot for the newsletter as I was
Competition Editor back then. Too bad CSLs were backmarkers
by 1978. But having CSLs, 2002s, 320s and the factory
McLaren 320i Turbo in the same weekend was great. Hobbs won
Sears Point and retired from Portland (I've hated him ever
since when he got in his street 630 at Portland after the
race, floored it and threw stones all over us. What a
jerk).

That racing weekend was special to me as I was celebrating
the publication of my first photos in Road & Track,
including the lead shot of Gilles Villeneuve at the 1978
LBGP in the July 1978 issue.

All photos copyright Jay J. Hector (except for the Women
page with the four frame sequence of the 1980 Long Beach
Grand Prix, from the book Grand Prix Fascination Formula 1,
by Rainer Schlegelmilch, and copyright Rainer
Schlegelmilch). That's me in the first frame with the long
blond-hair wearing the blue Motor Trend t-shirt. Rainer
(and many other photographers) wouldn't have a photo of this
to put in his book if it weren't for me. That's a story
that has yet to be told, but I will say the topless girl was
with me and it's great creating a moment that lives forever
in Grand Prix racing history.
=================================================
Turbo 2002: just parked on a street by the Dutch GP at

Zandvoort in 1975. ATS wheels, Cibie Super Oscar lights,
extra stripes.

Blue Group 5 2002: That ran in one of the 1975 Dutch GP
supporting races.

#24 CSL Hertig Team Libre: 1974 IMSA 3-hour race at Ontario
Motor Speedway. Hertig Team Libre CSLs were 1973 factory
cars that John Buffum (of US rally note) and Andy Peterie
(sp?) drove in 1974. A good effort (led for a while) but
couldn't beat Peter Gregg's Porsche Carrera, which was so
far ahead that even after breaking a half-shaft and crawling
around for about 10 minutes it still won.

The other CSL shots were from the 1975 IMSA Riverside 6-hour
race where Hans Stuck and Dieter Quester won and the second
car driven by Brian Redman (in a stunning performance) was
second on the last lap after having a flat and falling way
behind earlier in the race.

The yellow 2002 was also running in the above race.

Mark Donohue in the 1975 Penske F1 car at the 1975 Dutch GP. 1972 Indy 500 winner and king of the 917 Turbo Porsche
drivers, he died in this car in practice for the 1975
Austrian GP.

Vittorio Brambilla's Beta Tools March 751 at the 1975 Dutch
GP. Brambilla won his only F1 race at the 1975 Austria race
where Donohue was killed. Vittorio died about a week ago at
61 while mowing his lawn in Italy.

Tony Brise in the Embassy Hill Lola also at the '75 Dutch
GP. Graham Hill's F1 team. Brise amazed everyone at the
1975 Long Beach F5000 race (no F1 in 1975 at Long Beach)
with his wall-brushing win in Teddy Yip's car over Mario
Andretti's Parnelli F5000 car. Graham Hill, Brise and four
other top team members were killed soon after the Long Beach
race when Hill crashed his plane returning from a testing
session.

At the 1975 Dutch GP James Hunt's Hesketh led Niki Lauda's
Ferrari the whole race this close for the only F1 win by a
Hesketh.

The fine triangular Brabham BT44 at the 1975 Dutch GP driven
by Carlos Reutemann. Carlos is the Governor of one of the
Argentinian states today, and could end up as president one
day.

Alan Jones' Williams during practice for 1980 Long Beach GP.

Nelson Piquet's Brabham during practice for the 1980 LBGP.

Jochen Mass' Arrows during practice 1980 LBGP.

Didier Pironi's Tyrrell during practice 1980 LBGP. Pironi
crashed heavily in practice for the 1982 German GP and that
ended his F1 career. He was (1987?) killed in an Offshore
Powerboat race in the English Channel.

Clay Regazzoni in the Unipart/Ensign F1 car (CART team owner
Mo Nunn's F1 team) during practice at the 1980 LBGP. During
the race Regazzoni's brake-pedal broke at the end of the
straight, he crashed heavily and was paralyzed, ending his
F1 career. He won the first LBGP in 1976 in a Ferrari and
was the first driver to win an F1 race in a Williams when he
won the Britsh GP in 1979.
