My suggestion would be to consider replacement Cibie or Hellas for both the low and high beams before drilling into your bumper to mount another set of lights.

There are different intensity bulbs available, all for "off road" use only of course :), and they make a dramatic difference over stock. Be aware that increasing bulbs beyond the 55/60w may require modifications to your existing wiring. These bulbs to get hot especially as you increase the wattage.

My coupe has Cibie replacements with 55/60W bulbs for just the low beams and they are great. I would do the high beams as well, but I don't drive this car enough at night and there are other more pressing projects to be done. I have had other cars with 80/100w bulbs and the lighting was awesome.

Just a thought.

TodB

We're thinking of adding driving lights to 72 E9 and want to retain as "period-correct" a look as possible. Are the large Cibies best? Which model? What's the best source?

Thanks in advance.
