Speedo cable replacement (archive)

My speedo has died - I suspect that it is the cable. I started to look at removing the end that is attached to the instrument cluster and could not find a way of getting to the back of the speedo. Does anyone knwo if you have to remove the whole instrument cluster to get at it?
