Remove the under dash panels. You should be able to reach up to the back of the speedo. If not, remove the clock. You don't have to take it all the way out, just loosen the two knurled nuts that hold it in place and turn it (clockwise, I think) about 1/8 turn so it is loose and move it so you can stick your hand in thruough the opening to reach the back of the speedo.
Disconnect the battery first, so you don't accidently short something out.
This works for me, but I have relatively small hands. Also, it seems like the knurled nuts are getting harder to turn as the cars age!
It can be tough this way, but you don't have to remove the cluster, which is a LOT more work.
