I just replaced the one in my '72 with the one you describe. It is an Ate marked "23" on the casting as was the original part, but there were two differences. The brake lines lined up perfectly with the threaded ports, however, despite the differences.

One was that the bolt you mentioned.

The other was that the ports that connect the reservoir to the cylinder are larger in diameter.

That was solved by first inserting the 90 degree nylon hose-end fittings that press into the master cyl fully into 3/8" lengths of US type 5/16" fuel hose (rubber inside and outside), which then press-fit fully into the master fittings. This acts like a leak-proof reducer bushing for the fittings.

The cylinder works perfectly and acts like the old one (before it started bypassing, of course!).

I have a 72 CSi, and the parts dealer listed a master cylinder that looks similar, but has the limit bolt on the bottom instead of the top.... I know there are 2 master cylinders, and they are different at the bore by about 2 mm... but rather than disassemble it to find out, does anyone know if this will work? I am rebuilding all the hydralics, and figured I might as well do the master at the same time.... Mark
