can someone tell me exactly what details these documents provide? the BMW website said something about VIN, engine #, chasis #, and date of delivery. does it also have things that are less obvious -- like city of delivery or original dealership?

There is an advertisement in the June(?) Roundel for a "birth certificate". IMHO its looks dopey. No useful information you probably don't already have.
