can someone tell me exactly what details these documents provide? the BMW website said something about VIN, engine #, chasis #, and date of delivery. does it also have things that are less obvious -- like city of delivery or original dealership?

TIA.

I have one of those certificates for my 2800 cs, and I think it is a nice thing to have.(it even looks good)
I ordered a similar one for my late MGA 1500, from British Heritage, and this one didnt give me more info than the one from BMW. I sent an e.mail to mobile tradition ordering it, and in seperate mail, i sent a copy of the registration papers , in order to confirm ownership. after about two weeks, i had it in the mail
it states date of production and delivery, colour of the car and which deale sold it. appr 40 Dlrs
