It would work fine. You could just run a twisted pair from the switch to the fuel pump. Disconnect the + wire from the pump and attach it to one of the pair, and attach to other wire to the pump terminal and you're in business.

Make sure you use a toggle switch rated for 15 amps and #14 wire for the leads so you don't have significant voltage drop in the extra wiring.

That sounds like a great idea, and would you also use it on the fuel injected car that has the electrical pump and in what line of wires would you install the switch?
