before disassembling the door. Gently pry up the switch assy out of the console. Before you pull the switch out of the harness, make sure the plastic at the harness end isn't broken. If it is, when you pull the switch, the wires will come out and you'll have fun figuring out which wire goes where. If it is broken, you can put some electrical tape around it to hold it in place, but record which wire color goes where.

If the switch from the passenger side doesn't help, then go on to the more complex troubleshooting.
