Actually, I was asking about both inside and outside, but you have answered both my questions. I know how to use the self-etching stuff so nothing new so far, which is good. Thanks.

I'll assume that you are talking about the OUTSIDE metal, and not rustproofing interior cavities (which is best done by fogging with Waxoyl or similar).
After stripping and metal repair (mig-welding, etc,) you can use self etching zinc chromate primer (such as DuPont VariPrime 615) or epoxy primer (DuPont Corlar or Nason FulPoxy) over the cleaned bare metal. Then you can fill/fill as desired.

Gruppe:
I would like to purchase a CS in a near future, as rust free as possible, and then restore it to bring it into good shape w/o rust. I'll likely strip it to the bare shell and repaint it. I'm not looking to make a concours car, just a good daily driver that looks as good as my other cars.
What I am looking for is information on how to rust-proof panels to approach modern standards of rust-resistance. I've painted my 1989 325 iC and a 1983 Porsche 944 and used a PPG 'sealer' before the primer, but was wondering if that is the only way. Such a treatment would have to work on incompletely stripped panels as I do not intend to go to bare metal over 100% of the car, just those areas that need it for filler work and existing rust removal.
Thanks.
