If you've got a carburettor car, there's an important tip you should bear in mind. The hose that runs from the inlet manifold to the booster (at least on RHD cars) has a little one-way valve in it to pull the vacuum. If this thing gives up the ghost, thee boosters fill with petrol, which does nothing for their longevity. Check this little valve every year or so. They're not expensive.

Not sure if this advice is relevant to LHD cars in view of the different booster set-ups...
